Well, it turned out to be a lamb…the goat kids were more like lions!

I should know better than to shout out about the animals that will be visiting someplace.  It’s much safer to tell the story AFTER it has already happened when dealing with animals…especially goat kids!

The look on my husband’s face this morning about 15 minutes before I was to leave for the preschool visit told me that a change of plans was in order.  He had been chasing the 2 week old goat kids around long enough and decided that the one week old lamb was much more suited to a school visit.  Fine with me…

I recalled last year’s goat visit where the adorable little fuzzy bundles were snugly situated in a cardboard box on the way to the school.  The way back was a different story.  Luckily, our then 9 year old son was along to help and managed to somehow corral the babes and keep his own seatbelt on until I could pull over in a safe spot.  I put them back in their carrier and prayed that they’d stay there.  They did, for about 3 minutes and then I saw one staring at me in my rear view mirror.  These were 1 week old goat kids, mind you.  I’m not yet crazy enough to try and travel with a larger sized animal in my cross-over vehicle.  But these two little babes were more like monkeys than any farm animal you could imagine!  Once again, Wyatt saved the day and grabbed the wee one before anyone was the wiser (I’m still not certain that I’m much wiser!) and we made it home despite the side-splitting laughter that filled our car that day.

Ahhh, memories.  I’m glad we took the lamb.

She was perfect.  Ryder read a story to the class and he was perfect.  The preschoolers were perfect too.  It was 75 degrees out today.  Perfect.  What are the chances we’ll have another perfect day like this tomorrow?  Hee hee….I tempt fate too often!

Farm “kids” visiting preschool kids!

Kids!

Smiles.  Giggles.  Noisy.  Messy faces and hands, hooves, fur and wait….I need to explain.  Our farm “kids” are baby goats of course!  Our farm boys are just that…the little humans that run around our farm with messy faces and hands and smiles a mile wide at certain times.

We love kids…both the animal and human kind.  And so, sometimes when we have new “kids” on the farm we decide to plan a visit to some of the human kids in our community.  We also sometimes take one of our farm boys with us…to visit their old preschool is such a treat for them!

This time I’m taking my 1st grader, Ryder, to Glee preschool.  He’s getting out of school just a little early for this much anticipated event.  He’ll get to help me show off our goat kids and he’ll get to show off his own skills by reading a story to the class of human kids.  The goats may stay still and quiet enough to listen for a bit too.  We’ll see.

Overall, this is one of my favorite spring farm “duties” so to speak.  It’s not a duty when it’s this much fun!  I’ll let you know how it goes after tomorrow…

All Ages Easter Egg Hunt on the farm!

This is my first blog!  I’m reading the directions provided by our web designer as I’m typing so this one may not be very exciting, but the content is cool!  We’re having our annual Easter Egg hunt on Saturday, March 31.  This year we’ve included ALL AGES…That’s right, everyone from age 1-100 or other is welcome!  Just be sure to buy a ticket from the farm market.  We’ll separate ages into groups to keep it fair.  We’ll have loads of plastic eggs filled with treats along with delicious food samples in our market and adorable baby farm animals to pet and visit.  Homemade barbeque sandwiches and soup will be available for purchase.  All participants must have a TICKET to participate in the egg hunt.  Limited numbers of Tickets are just $1 each and are available only at the farm market.

This is a rain or shine event as we have two greenhouses and a huge tent where the hunts will be held should the weather not be very cooperative.   This is a farm for crying out loud!  We work and play in EVERY kind of weather!  Just dress in boots and old clothes and get dirty!  Woo Hoo!!!!
